NH trooper shot during traffic stop released from hospital January 8, 2021 GMT MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — A New Hampshire state trooper who was shot last month after stopping a vehicle in Dalton has been released from a hospital. Trooper Matt Merrill had been hospitalized in critical condition following the shooting on Dec. 23. Authorities said Merrill exchanged gunfire with Mark Clermont, 45, during a traffic stop. Clermont died. The attorney general’s office is investigating. State police said Merrill is continuing his recovery. “We are hopeful that Trooper Merrill and his family will be able to recover from the physical, mental and emotional injuries,” the New Hampshire Troopers Association said in a statement. “The outpouring of support from the thousands of people who showed how much they care for our trooper is amazing, and we are still at a loss for words. ”
