The Nickerson School Board's newest member is finding leaks, literally. He's working alongside the board and the district's maintenance director to make the district's schools safer. Jay Mitzner, who was recently elected to the board, visited Nickerson High School and did not like what he saw in the chemistry, welding and woodworking rooms. Mitzner, who works in construction, examined the rooms, spoke with the teachers and consulted with Mike Howell, the director of maintenance for the district. "The classrooms are in terrible shape. There are years and years of neglect," Mitzner told the board during their meeting on Monday evening. "There wasn’t a plan to fix anything. There wasn't a plan to update anything.."
