TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, 6 April (PIA) – For the first quarter of 2021, Region 2’s fishing grounds had a break from foreign poachers after zero sightings were recorded during the period. LtCol. Rowan Rimas, commander of the Marine Battalion Landing Team 10 (MBLT-10)/ Naval Task Group Fleet-Marine Cagayan said that along with the efforts of different law enforcement agencies like the Philippine Navy, the Philippine Coastguard, the Philippine National Police, and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), no sightings were observed based on their different monitoring stations. Rimas attributed this to the aggressive campaign of the Philippine government against poaching, as well as their move to empower concerned communities by organizing fisherfolk and community members to become their partners in implementing various laws.
