Fire crews were called to the scene just after 5 p.m., as smoke was billowing out of the top floor of the house. It took about 30 minutes to get the fire under control. Rome Fire Chief Thomas Iacovissi told NEWSChannel 2 the house is a total loss. He also says there were animals inside the home, but no injuries were reported.
