Nokia has announced it plans to deploy its 5G Standalone Core for DISH on Amazon Web Services (AWS). DISH had announced agreements with both of the companies in the past, but this most recent announcement marks the world’s initial 5G deployment in the public cloud. The union will support DISH’s cloud-native OpenRAN-based 5G network with high level scale, performance and security. “Running the Nokia 5G SA core on AWS will optimize our network operations to launch new software and services rapidly and efficiently, enabling the integration of countless innovative use cases for customers,” DISH Chief Network Officer Marc Rouanne said in a statement. “This collaboration is an important step forward on our mission to deploy the United States’ first cloud-native, OpenRAN-based 5G network.”
