North Canterbury pupils join fight to reduce speed limit outside their school

Tram Rd is a notorious crash spot. There had been at least 77 crashes on the road in the last five years, including two fatal and 13 serious crashes, according to data recorded by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency of which 13 were serious and two were fatal.
Rees, who has lived in the Swannanoa area for 20 years, has been advocating for changes to speed limits around the school and others across the country for years.
She said many Swannanoa pupils were “horrified” to hear the speed limit was so high around their school and that any potential changes may not happen until 2029.
