Northbound US-23 at MM 11 closed from crash, fire : vimarsan

SUMMERFIELD TWP. — A truck driver suffered serious injuries when his rig drove off U.S. 23, crashed and burst into flames Thursday afternoon.
Northbound lanes of the highway were closed for hours while the scene was cleared. Only one lane was reopened four hours after the accident.
"It was a pile of mess," said Summerfield Fire Chief Nick Lucas.
The truck driver was headed north near Exit 11 when the 18-wheeler left the roadway for unknown reasons. Lucas said the rig struck a large tree, cutting it half. The tree was about two feet in diameter at the base.
