NRL 2021: Peter V'landys unmoved by backlash as stars slam crackdown on player welfare

Some of the game’s biggest stars slammed the NRL’s crackdown on contact with the head and other infringements that resulted in eight sin-binnings in just two games on Friday night, one more and the send-off of Raiders star Josh Papalii in the Raiders-Bulldogs game on Saturday afternoon and the sin-binning of Jaydn Su’A (Sharks-Souths), Sitili Tupouniua and Lachlan Burr (Roosters-Cowboys) on Saturday night.
While Tevita Pangai jnr and Tyson Gamble can escape suspension with early guilty pleas to their careless high-tackle charges, Jordan Riki is facing between two and three weeks out for his crusher tackle on Haumole Olakau’atu. Riki is also facing a fine after being charged with dangerous contact with the head/neck of Morgan Harper.
