Published July 4, 2021, 9:07 AM NTC The National Telecommunications Commission has directed all telecommunications entities to ensure that their services are unhampered in the areas affected by the recent volcanic activity of Taal Volcano. Pursuant to Memorandum Order No. 05-04-2011 signed by NTC Commissioner Gamaliel A. Cordoba, the NTC has ordered telco firms to ensure that there are sufficient number of technical and support personnel and standby generators with extra fuel, tools and spare equipment in communities surrounding Taal Volcano and nearby cities and provinces. As reported on Saturday by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), “at 1516H (3:16 PM) PST, Taal Volcano Main Crater generated a short-lived dark phreatomagmatic plume 1 kilometer-high with no accompanying volcanic earthquake. In view of the above, DOST-PHIVOLCS is now raising the alert status of Taal from Alert Level 2 to Alert Level 3. This means that there is magmatic intrusion at the Main Crater that may further drive succeeding eruptions.
