A GoFundMe started last night to support the Lytton community has raised more than $40,000 in 13 hours.
The village of roughly 250 people was evacuated last night, June 30, as fire ravaged the town. MP for the Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon Brad Vis reported the town sustained structural damage and 90% of the village is burned, including the centre of town. Injuries have also been reported.
The fire is estimated to be 8,000 hectares in size.
The Savage Society, an Indigenous non-profit, started the fundraiser with the 2 Rivers Remix Society, a Lytton non-profit, on behalf of Lytton residents. It has a goal of $50,000.
