Last year, Orange County canceled in-person graduations at all 20 of its high schools because of the coronavirus pandemic.Superintendent Barbara Jenkins announced there would be in-person graduations for the 2021 school year. "We are quite encouraged that we can have all our graduation ceremonies all in-person with social distancing and with face masks at the (Amway Center)," Jenkins said.The ceremonies will be held in-person at the Amway Center. Seniors at Edgewater High were surprised and thrilled at the news."We don't want to have it behind a screen or on a presentation but with our moms and stuff like that," Keshan Swain said. "It means a lot. It means a lot, a lot."Jenkins told the school board the county's health officer, Dr. Raul Pino said in-person commencements can be safely planned. Graduates and guests will need to wear face masks and maintain distance from each other.In front of the Amway Center, there are markers to remind people to stand six feet apart. School officials say, to the best of their ability, that's what they'll try to have graduates do.The school district says each graduate will receive at least four guest tickets and the graduations will be livestreamed for those who can't attend.
