Some people who had their belongings locked away in an Orange County storage unit are assessing the losses on Monday after nearly 100 units at the facility were burglarized. Customers of Extra Space Self-Storage off Alafaya Trail in east Orlando discovered this weekend that dozens of unit doors had been broken into. Brock Young, who owns Oasis Lawn, Landscape and Pool said he stores his trailers and tools at the facility. His unit was one of those broken into and he estimates that $20,000 worth of his company’s stuff was taken. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said 94 units were pried open and the facility’s exit gate was badly damaged. Young said his property at the facility has been hit three times in six months and told WESH 2 News that the storage company has not done anything to help him. “I haven’t gotten a single bit of communication in any shape or form. No email, no phone call, not text. They email, call me and text me all the time when my rent is due.” An employee told WESH 2 News they could not comment. Young said the facility needs to invest in more cameras and security to prevent thefts from happening.
