"The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism represented by the Directorate General of Antiquities implemented a project for inventory and to document old health quarries in the governorates of Oman during 2020 and 2021, where the number reached 81,” the Minister of Heritage and Tourism said in a statement. The Ministry confirmed that these quarries were used to quarantine patients with infectious diseases such as plague, smallpox and other infectious diseases. The aim of the quarries was to reduce the spread of diseases among the population, and the forms of these quarries varied between buildings, caves and valleys.
