Overturned trailer stops I-96 traffic in Tallmadge Twp. By Peg McNichol Jul 18, 2021 | 10:08 PM HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Two people escaped injuries, but their travel trailer did not, in a crash just before 5 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2021, that tied up traffic on I-96 for hours. The crash, near Eighth Street in Tallmadge Township, happened while the two Dearborn Heights residents were westbound on I-96, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Michael Hallmeyer. The driver spotted a vehicle stopped on the freeway, according to Hallmeyer, and “was forced to take evasive action,” heading toward the median to avoid a crash. The move caused the travel trailer “to disengage and overturn, which resulted in a large amount of debris to scatter across the roadway,” Hallmeyer wrote in an email to media.
