P.E.I. carbon tax pays back more than it costs drivers, report shows

A report from PEI’s Auditor General shows that the province’s carbon tax program paid back $5 million more than it collected at the pumps in its first year.
The province’s carbon tax was introduced in April 2019 as a way to encourage more efficient driving practices and rein in vehicle emissions. This report covers the first 12 months of the program and the ways the money was reinvested.
