Jul 2, 2021 Laval cops will be hitting the bike paths and waterways this summer as the SPL bicycle and nautical patrols return for the season. A team of a dozen bike patrollers will travel the streets, public places, parks and bike paths until September 25, with a mandate to enforce municipal regulations, the Highway Safety Code and ensure the tranquility of Laval residents. Officers will also pay particular attention to the sharing of public roads between pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. The mobile and versatile unit travels easily in various places and has the advantage of being close to citizens and being able to intervene where it is difficult for motor vehicles to circulate. Two agents will be using electric bikes this year as part of a pilot project. Residents are encouraged to greet all officers on their patrols.
