County staff is requesting the board's direction on the subject as the county has no requirement for periodic re-evaluation of buildings to determine their ongoing safety. The Building Division currently relies primarily on reported concerns from residents and property owners to determine when to initiate an investigation into potentially unsafe buildings. The discussion is on the agenda for Tuesday's County Commission meeting. Some local municipalities are also considering changes, including Boca Raton, which is expected to consider a recertification ordinance for condos.
