Portland climate emergency progress report headed to Portland council July 27 2021 The update of last year's emergency declaration will be presented to the City Council on Thursday, July 29. The City Council will receive a report on progress toward meeting Portland's climate emergency goals on Thursday, July 29. The report to be presented by the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability and the Portland Bureau of Transportation will update progress made since the council passed an emergency declaration to accelerate the city's climate action — and what still needs to be done to address the growing climate emergency. The current goal is to reduce carbon emissions by at least 50% by 2030 and 100% by 2050 or sooner. According to the planning and sustainability bureau, the progress report comes at a time when the realities of climate change are hitting closer to home and more severely harming Portlanders, especially the city's most vulnerable community members.
