MANGALURU: Covid-19 has posed unique challenges for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia with isolation during the pandemic being one of the major issues. The disruption in routines has also accelerated stress levels in many dementia patients.
Loretta Pinto, co-founder, Susheg Jivith Neuro Care of Susheg Charitable Trust that provides residential care for patients with dementia and other neurological illnesses, told TOI, “Lot of families with Alzheimer patients have approached us during this pandemic on difficulties in taking care of patients at home. It is not possible to take patients for a drive around the city or beach as they are senior citizens and prone to lung infections. We guide such families through tele-counselling. There has been a change in their routine and they are missing their physiotherapy sessions by specialists. We are trying our best to cater to their needs with the available resources,” Loretta said.
