Paper tickets
June 2, 2021
One of the flaws of the otherwise secure and satisfactory transport service provided by BRT Peshawar is that it uses non-reusable paper tickets. The tickets have a QR code that lets passengers pass through the entry and exit points. They are usually thrown away after use.
A survey shows that almost 175,000 passengers use this service on a daily basis. The mass production of paper for ticketing purposes is hazardous and has devastating effects on the environment, and may prove counterproductive in dealing with climate change (the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has taken various laudable initiatives to tackle global warming). Reusable plastic-based materials should be used for tickets.
