Paralympics swimmer Jessica Long's story told in Super Bowl ad

The Paralympic Games will get underway in August in Tokyo, where one Baltimore athlete will look to add to her already record-breaking career.Six months out from the Paralympic Games, the most-decorated swimmer in history, Jessica Long, has eyes on a fifth trip to the games in a journey that is attracting more attention than ever before.Long has 23 Paralympic medals -- 13 gold. They represent achievements that have vaulted Long to the forefront Paralympic swimming fame.But her journey to stardom, adoption to America from Siberia and the perseverance to be great transcends sports. Her story reached more than 60 million people in a TV commercial during the 2021 Super Bowl."It's so funny. I was so nervous that it wasn't going to be received well because it's still my story. It's very raw, personal and everyone got a chance to so see it," Long said. "So, I was like, do people like it? Are people going to like the story? Like, that's my life. And it was received, I think, really well."Long's 30-second ad earned incredible praise across the globe. It's a message she said she's proud to share, and the reaction to which is a little overwhelming."I think I can touch different people, whether you're adopted or going through a challenge or overcoming obstacles, or just maybe being in a sport or an elite athlete. I feel like I cover so many groups of people," Long said. "It was really beautiful. I definitely got a lot of responses, so many great responses. I still have a lot of people to reply back to, but it was just incredibly special."Now, she heads into the Tokyo Games, ready to add to her record haul."Honestly, I'm just having a lot of fun. I think that's huge. I'm really not stressing out that much because everything's just coming together. I think as I've gotten older, I've realized how to swim smarter. I am a smarter swimmer, I've been swimming for 18 years. I have the experience," Long said.This summer, for the first time, NBC will dedicate live coverage in prime time for the Paralympics.
