Paul Rodriguez is one of the most important — and tenured — figures in the history of Nike‘s Nike SB sub-label, so the Swoosh is nodding to his story with a new SB Dunk Low “What the P-Rod.” Drawing inspiration from a plethora of P-Rod sneakers that range from Rodriguez’s own signature line to his many SB Dunk collaborations, the “What The P-Rod” is a detailed trip down memory lane for any Rodriguez stan or SB fan. Pieces of note include an elephant-printed mudguard and eyestays that salute 2005’s Air Jordan-inspired P-Rod 1 “J-Rod,” a toebox that nods to the P-Rod 1 “Stash” from 2006 and another toebox that pulls directly from the P-Rod 1 “Mexican Blanket.” There’s also quilted linings inspired by the P-Rod 2 plus a lace deubre and outsole borrowed from Rodriguez’s more recent SB Dunk High. A veritable laundry list of pieces from P-Rod’s other releases finish the look, making for a design that’s just as much retrospective book on Rodriguez and Nike’s partnership as it is colorful sneaker.
