Peekskill appoints former Wappingers Mayor acting city manager

PEEKSKILL — City Comptroller Matt Alexander, a former Wappingers Falls mayor, has been temporarily appointed Peekskill’s acting city manager.
Alexander will lead day-to-day operations of the northern Westchester city of 25,000 residents until City Manager Andy Stewart, who had been in a stroke-induced car crash last week, returns.
The city's Common Council unanimously approved Alexander for the post at a special meeting Friday night.
“Thank you for being willing to step up to this position,” Mayor Andre Rainey said, noting Alexander’s years of experience in government and his role as comptroller with the city’s finances and budgeting.
On Tuesday, Rainey said on Facebook Stewart "is doing much better and we’re expecting a full recovery. Thank you all for your support and prayers!"
