A Pender County teacher, who says she was assaulted by a student with a "violent history," has filed a lawsuit against the school board, claiming they failed to follow policies that would have protected her. According to the lawsuit, Kimberly Burns-Fisher was teaching eighth grade language arts at Topsail Middle School in Pender County in April 2018 when a student attacked her. The lawsuit alleges the student caused permanent injuries to the teacher, including eye and brain damage. Those injuries require ongoing medical treatment, and Burns-Fisher was not able to continue teaching due to her injuries. Assaulted by a 15-year-old student
