Plainview Independent School District granted employees a temporary benefit of 10 days of emergency paid sick leave this year to aid those affected by COVID-19.
During a regular meeting Thursday night, the PISD School Board unanimously approved a resolution to extend that benefit through June 30, 2021.
The leave was authorized by the Families First Coronavirus Response Act under the guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) that recommended a 14-day quarantine, which has since been reduced to seven to 10 days.
Looking at this from a school week perspective, the 14-day quarantine would ideally include 10 school days and two weekends, said Brandy Merrick, chief people officer for the district.
