Port Huron Twp. railroad roundhouse being demolished this week
View Comments
A more than 100-year railroad roundhouse in Port Huron Township is being demolished this week after a portion of it collapsed last month.
CSX, which owns the property, began demolishing the structure at 32nd and Petit streets Monday and hopes to finish with demolition this week, said CSX spokeswoman Sheriee Bowman.
The structure is being demolished due to safety concerns, she said.
Kirk Lavigne, the township's building official, said CSX was issued a permit for demolition Friday. Once the demolition is complete, the township will inspect the site to ensure the project was properly completed.
