Vijay said it is visible from the budget speech that the economy has been adversely affected by the pandemic, leaving government with no option but to raise taxes and levies to raise funds. According to him, it was inevitable that government would increase the taxes as the crucial sectors of economy that boosts government coffers in mining and tourism were in recession.
