A Bengaluru-based advocate has filed a
complaint of
assault against a Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) in
Channagiri in Davangere district after he was manhandled and abused by the latter while standing in a queue in front of a grocery store on Saturday. Advocate Manju Byral R, alleged in his complaint that
PSI Jagdish was demanding bribes from the shopkeeper for letting him keep the shop open and when the lawyer intervened, the PSI allegedly manhandled the advocate and roughed him and abused him.
The incident happened on May 8 around 9.40 am. It is to be noted that citizens are allowed to shop for essentials until 10 am during the lockdown. It is said that the advocate was standing in a queue to purchase groceries while maintaining all social distancing norms when the PSI came to the shop and started asking people in the queue to move aside and was allegedly demanding a bribe from the shopkeeper.
