The Whitman County Commissioners will hold public hearings Monday to receive input on proposed regulations for new marijuana businesses in the unincorporated areas of the county. The commissioners have had a moratorium on new marijuana businesses in the rural parts of the county in place since March of last year. The move followed a controversial proposal from Selway Holdings LLC to grow, process, and research marijuana next to the Washington State University dairy farm near Pullman. That proposal was met by opposition from WSU, neighbors, Pullman Regional Hospital, and Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories. Since then, the Whitman County Planning Commission has crafted restrictions for new marijuana businesses in the unincorporated areas of the county. The commissioners will be accepting citizen comments on the proposed rules during 2 virtual public hearings on Monday. The first is at 11:00 am while the second public hearing is Monday at 6:00.
