Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood says Qantas’ total half year revenue is down some $7 billion from the same period last year - showing the significant impact of the pandemic on the airline.
This comes as Qantas posted a first half loss of around $1.1 billion.
Mr Greenwood said Qantas CEO Alan Joyce is “optimistic” he can get his airline back in the air for around 7,500 people whose jobs depend on it.
The Qantas CEO wants the state and federal governments to come to an agreement not to shut the state borders anymore by the end of April and also wants his airline to be allowed to resume international flights by the end of October.
"He says ... the government itself has to make a decision very quickly as to what will happen at the end of JobKeeper as to whether those jobs actually disappear and those people are in hardship or whether indeed some other form of support is created for them," Mr Greenwood said.
