Taipei, May 20 (CNA) A government-backed short message service (SMS) system that enables cellphone users to leave their contact information more conveniently when they enter a venue has been introduced to more than 1 million venues nationwide, the Cabinet said Thursday.
As of 10 a.m. that day, 1.34 million QR codes had been generated for free use, said Cabinet spokesman Lo Ping-cheng (羅秉成) at a weekly press conference.
The service, launched the previous day, requires visitors to a venue to scan a QR code provided by its operator before they enter, which will connect them to the SMS embedded in their cellphones.
