There were many variables that shaped Dr. Joseph Pater’s decision to research cancer treatments — his wife, who was a nurse, his father, who died of colon cancer when he was young, and his medical mentors.
“Some of the people who trained me, the residents and the faculty members, the ones who impressed me, the people I admired, they worked in this area,” Pater explained in a phone interview.
