iStock There needs to be a societal shift in the definition of bullying to accurately address it in schools, says advocacy manager at child rights organisation Women and Men Against Child Abuse (WMACA), Luke Lamprecht. "The first problem we have is the definition of the term bullying in its entirety. We need to look at a continual behaviour, from very simple things that we need to teach children a bit of resistance around, all the way through to things like this, which is assault. "It generally minimises the effect of the more serious bullying and it overestimates some of the behaviour. We need to rather get into the habit of describing the behaviour of children towards other children, rather than calling everything bullying," he said.
