LAHORE: The Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMA) has recommended the provincial government to increase ridership and reduce subsidy for the Lahore Orange Line metro train system by allowing it to introduce a distance-based fare for the commuters. Through introducing distance-based fares, the burden of ticket expense will be distributed equally on all customers. Moreover, it will also help the government reduce subsidy, according to a spokesman for the transport department. “We have all recommended that senior citizens should be allowed travel by the orange line free of cost. And in this regard, a card will be issued to them,” the spokesman said in a press release. “Free travelling has also been proposed for special/disabled persons through special cards,” he said.
