20 Dec 2020 The pub in Holwick CAMPAIGNERS are celebrating after plans to convert an historic pub into a home were withdrawn. The owner of Holwick’s Strathmore Arms, Ivan Carter-Becker, had applied for permission to convert the inn, saying it was unviable as a business. His agents, GAC Planning, had told county officers that the pub had been put up for sale in February, and the asking price reduced in July, but no reasonable bids had been made. The application was withdrawn last week as campaigners began to rally round to protect it. Pub supporter Stephen Lickrish said more than 100 people were preparing to object to the proposal.
