Retailers encouraged to nominate ‘unsung’ community heroes for census honour Print 16th December 2020 Retailers are being encouraged to get involved in an initiative to celebrate the “unsung heroes” of communities across England and Wales. The Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) is urging retailers to nominate deserving local people by the end of December as part of a campaign marking next year’s census. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) will be rewarding 22 people with purple plaques to honour their community work and is now seeking input from convenience operators to help identify them. ACS chief executive James Lowman said: “Local shops are an important part of local communities, and we’re delighted to be working with the ONS to promote the census which provides the data that ultimately determines how those communities are funded and supported.
