After less than two weeks out of a stay at home order, Thunder Bay will move into lockdown on Monday, March 1, due to a rise in COVID-19 cases.
The change means bars and restaurants that had been able to open for very limited dining beginning Feb. 16 will again have to close both indoor and outdoor dining, but takeout can continue. Retailers can remain open but capacity limits will fall to 50% for supermarkets and pharmacies and 25% for other stores, including big-box stores.
"As cases in the community continue to rise at an alarming rate, the decision was made by the province for this lockdown to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the community," Thunder Bay Mayor Bill Mauro said in a news release. "We must also remember our local businesses and restaurants – please shop local and get take-out to support our small business."
