With the arrival of summers, hill and forest ecosystems in the city and the outskirts are under threat due to forest fires. A total of over 327 incidents of forest fires have taken place in areas under Pune division in the last one year — in the past three months alone, some 133 incidents have been reported. Several forest fires have gutted around 340 hectares of forest cover from the division.
To deal with this series of incidents, the Pune forest division has for the first time formed a 23-member dedicated anti-wild fire squad to prevent and control fire incidents. Deputy chief minister
