The usage of all-terrain and off-road vehicles is a continued problem in Rome, which has caused some discussion about the implementation of possible stricter penalties. “I know there has been discussion in making stricter penalties for violating the City Code concerning these offenses,” said Rome police spokesman Lt. Sharon Rood. “However, I am not sure where they are in that process.” Off-road vehicles are prohibited on public highways in Rome. Rome Mayor Jacqueline Izzo confirmed the city is looking at stricter penalties for off-road vehicle use — something it has been monitoring for quite some time. Izzo said she recently passed off-road vehicle laws from Albany to the Rome police chief to review.
