9 & 10 News June 30, 2021 “Gypsy Moth Busters” is a new program through Roscommon 4H and the Roscommon Gypsy Moth Program. Their goal is to get kids out to learn about the moths and ways they are harmful to the environment. 4H put a packet of information together about gypsy moths for parents and kids to go through together. It explains a little bit about the history of the moths, and methods to get rid of the moths like putting duct tape around the trunk of a tree or attaching a burlap flap to a trunk. “When kids collect 100 gypsy moths, that would represent next year’s crop of gypsy moth that would represent 5 football fields worth of gypsy moth defoliation,” said John Wurm Roscommon County 4H Program Coordinator. “They’re heroes, that’s what we call them. 4H gypsy moth heroes!”
