Chastain, along with Kurt Busch, are the two drivers currently racing for CGR and at the time of the announcement, Trackhouse owner Justin Marks indicated that both existing drivers were on the short list to fill the second car next year. With only two cars and the franchise tag that went with them, one driver was going to be left without a seat when the music stopped.
According to NBC Sports, Chastain immediately texted Marks, "I want this", referring to the second car with the organization. And apparently his enthusiasm was rewarded. In a statement, Marks said that Chastain has been given a multi-year contract. He is currently competing in his third full-time season of Cup racing.
