Followed by italy with 59000 and the u. S. Now in the top 3 at 42000 now lets take a closer look at this country with reported deaths hovering around 558 now in an effort to fight aids new york california and Washington State almost half of all the u. S. Cases about 20000 of them are all in new york alone several states have been issued stay at home orders for its residents with some even ordering nonessential businesses to close its doors this means stay at home and avoid going out as much as possible unless its essential now current restrictions include the 3 biggest cities in the country New York Los Angeles and chicago overall that policy is going to affect millions of people and right here in the Nations Capital republicans and democrats are clashing in the senate as the coronavirus rescue bill fell short of the votes it needed to advance. On sunday night and theyre back at it today debating on that bill now long before social danced this dancing was the new norm and before coded 19 swept the world a different kind of scientist hit mainstream popularity on netflixs documentary called pandemic now some view him as a rogue scientist others say he may be the man who might save the world from this real life pandemic Jacob Glanville is a computational immuno engineer he is the cofounder and chief science officer at distributed bio and hes joining us now to discuss this Global Crisis jacob thank you so much for being with us so 1st can you explain to us exactly what a computational in you know engineer is and how thats a political to helping with coke at 19. So thanks for having me on again propagation you know engineers use math and computers to help analyze you can sense and so on the basis of it and seeing if youre using special bioengineering sex be assisted by computers to help us take all the antibodies against the sars virus and adapt them to recognize a neutralize the copays 19000 by so as a scientist in this bio field what can you tell us about this Novel Coronavirus and if this strain and others are they occurring naturally. Yes or sumption is that these are coming from Natural Sources it could be a bat or some other creature that coronaviruses are very big family of viruses and unfortunately this one is very infectious in humans and its much more deadly than in lines so its spreading pretty quickly throughout the globe and were transitioning from. Trying to stop it from getting into countries and now its in mitigation measures where its already in the country trying to stop it and getting from. And you have a number of patents to your credit have any of those patents been applied towards that the type of work that youre doing now for a coded 1000. 00 vaccine which we hear you might be about a month away from a major breakthrough. So theres 2 types of medicines one conversion here one is a vaccine that is valuable but it takes a really long time to get the 18 months before we have a vaccine available and the other problem with the vaccine is that the vaccine relies on the immune system the 1st to receive so that things dont physically work that well in the elderly or the immunocompromised and unfortunately in this case the elderly and the immunocompromised are particularly hard hit. So when my laboratory is doing is developing an antibody and that anybody would use into a patient it doesnt matter if theyre old or immunocompromised and it immediately starts working to protect. Wow unfortunately its sad to hear that its not going to be very a political for for those who are actually are dying from it but its a step in the right direction and how do you then the role of big pharma in solving this new pandemic or perhaps the government are either of them helping or are they harming innovation. So i just want to clarify some my own anybody will work on patients and over from you know the elderly have a different set of x. Treat that area and its much faster so that thing you have to give to Healthy People and have to wait 6 or 7 weeks for their means of them to provide protection where this can work on anybody and it can work on patients thats why we think its the right treatment now wow that is fascinating ok that thank you for clarifying. The 2nd question and in terms of. Like big pharma i want to know i dont know maybe your competition necessarily but big pharma whats their role and solving this or governments role in solving pandemics are they helping. Solve problems around the hampering in or in of innovation. So i would say the big picture is that were all in this together because we all care about our families our loved ones and the Global Economy that we all live in the big pharma have methods for producing medicines like vaccines and theyre doing that by well but that will take 18 months maybe a little less to deliver there are are also some big farmers working on antibodies although we believe our technology is much faster we could use more help from the government and potentially partnerships with big pharma with our drugs so we are leading our engineering in the next few weeks and worsening the medicine to the military to test it the bigger is in its ability to utilize this virus but after that in order to get the people who need it globally as quickly as possible we need to run a phase one slash 2 human study and that needs to be done in the summer as soon as possible that study will let us know is it safe and effective and therefore can we start releasing the drug under compassionate use which means were not going to try to charge a bunch for it we just want to make sure its out there so people can start getting treated and in order to do that we need to spend a lot more money in the normally spend on a phase one study and we think government should support us in doing that and real quickly jacob how is distributed bio different from other people trying to solve this problem i mean what made netflix go tap your shoulder and tap your company what makes you guys different i think theres a couple things one is that we are willing to innovate or try new types of technologies one unique thing about our companies that we never took on Venture Capital we were profitable since the day of founding and so weve constantly weve benefited the we had to build things that work the Companies Want to be have to be to perform Suitable Companies and small biotech that work with us to develop antibodies and therapeutics in partnership with them and we use those technologies are so to go after really hard problems things like Broad Spectrum back things for influenza or in this case neutralizing antibody against the. Absolutely fascinating work that youre doing and distributed by oh thank you so much for carving out a few minutes of your time to share your insights with us taken glanville and distributed by oh thank you thanks for having me on. All right lets turn now to new york where there is the highest number of corona virus cases in the whole country officials bracing for that rapid influx of patients when the virus hits its peak past a mate in a matter of weeks. As continues our coverage on code 19 new york city. State officials sounding the alarm in new york of an andrew cuomo issuing an emergency order mandating all hospitals to increase their capacity by 50 percent as they prepare for a dramatic surge in coronavirus patients in the coming weeks this as the number of coronavirus cases in new york continue to climb there are now more than 20000 cases statewide including 5000 new cases new york city has become the epicenter of the outbreak with more than 12300. 00 confirmed cases they see it is an upward trajectory i see it as a wave that will break at one point when the question is what is the point of the break already hospitals across the country are reporting a surge in coronavirus patients and a looming shortage of critical supplies like ventilators and masks mayor bill de blasio saying hospitals have only a number of days to get critical supplies before doctors will be unable to save lives of those who might otherwise survive over the weekend the president approving a major disaster declaration requested by Governor Cuomo the order that brings the National Guard and approximately a 1000 medical beds to new york this as officials look to turn hotels into makeshift hospitals and large event spaces for hospital supplies storage but you have to reduce the spread of the race of the virus the rate of spread of the virus youre not really going to control the spread but you can reduce the rate of the spread so you can handle it in your Hospital System the Javits Center which is home to auto shows and trade conventions now its 1800000 square feet of space transforming into court. Temporary hospitals with a 1000 beds and then later theres other sites include State University of new york campuses at stony brook westbury on long island and the west Chester Convention Center meantime the governor continues to call in the federal government saying its time for President Trump to inforce the defense production act to order manufacturers around the country to produce more protective equipment for Health Care Workers reporting in new york treated each other as r. T. And florida is among one of the states being hit very hard right now by the corona virus pandemic as the cases there continue to grow some are criticizing the state governor for not doing enough to stop the spread r. J. Correspondent john how do you is joining us live from miami with more on this and john whats the latest there. Well the cases here in florida continue to increase sharply thats the bottom line to give you an example last week manila around this time there were roughly about 150 cases of confirmed cases of corona virus here in the state of florida well today right now at this moment as we speak the state is reporting 1171 confirmed cases and that number continues to grow and one number that i keep looking at very closely are the number of pending tests and there are more than 500 at this point more testing is being done now be it slowly but more of the drive through testing locations have been set up particularly here in south florida so as that continues expected that the numbers are going to continue to increase dramatically that said last week the city of miami and Miami Dade County basically shut down all nonessential Government Operations and then the order was given for all nonessential businesses to close were talking about bars and nightclubs also the city and county parks and beaches have all been shut down that basically happened throughout last week from about tuesday on now the restaurants that do remain open are open only for takeout and or delivery youre not seeing anybody going in and sitting you know and having having drinks and having cocktails or having dinner in the restaurants that is not happening here one of the problems though in miami and basically throughout florida particularly central and northern florida has been keeping people basically has been getting them to self isolate keeping them off the beaches out of the parks. Basically in self isolation some parks particularly here in south florida in the miami area have been crowded over the weekend we really saw that a lot of parks as crowded as theyve ever been walking paths in many areas especially overrun with teams of joggers and people who you know even out there with personal trainers people doing yoga that kind of thing. There was also the controversy of course speaking of last week and the video that went viral of all those spring breakers in south beach basically partying away with some defiantly saying that they continue to party regardless of the coronavirus well Miami Dade County tried to basically put an end to that by shutting down the bars and nightclubs and ultimately the beaches throughout the county though some say that wasnt done quick enough and it should have been done a lot sooner theres also controversy here over the weekend manila about the party boats and yachts still taking groups of people out on biscayne bay i saw a numerous ones on saturday doing exactly that also to one popular sand bar off my beach that was essentially packed with people partying in some areas shoulder to shoulder in response the mayor of Miami Dade County closed their marinas and boat ramps to try and stop that from continuing Florida GovernorRhonda Santos though has not issued a state wide order closing the beaches instead essentially leaving it up to the various cities and counties even today he said he doesnt think a mandatory shelter in place policy would be good for the state one thing he did do though and this just came out a short time ago is that hes basically saying if anyone is traveling from new york to florida then they will be required to have a mandatory 14 day self quarantine ok so that order was just put through. At this point though as far as not basically giving the order to close all the beaches taking a lot of heat for that he continues to with at this point one lawsuit being filed against governor the santa is demanding that he close all the beaches and that it wasnt done soon enough but so far Miami Dade Broward and palm beach counties here in south florida have all essentially shut down today a group of more than 75 emergency room doctors nurses and physicians physicians assistants here in the miami dade area issued an open letter to the residents of. Miami Dade County Police being with them to stop going out to stop going to the parks to stop going out and basically fraternizing and basically dismissing the threat of this disease saying that this testing ramps up quote the number of confirmed cases will explode it is a dangerous threat to all of us and quote i know about to just mind blowing john that people are just disregarding all of us john how do you live for us in miami thank you. Right so as the u. S. Tries to combat the coronavirus there are calls to stop politicizing this pandemic well discuss this next with our gas and then later in the sports h. Q. Go buy. R t america brings you stories of world wide significance news of Corporate Media refuses to show you from social movements to civil wars to tech breakthroughs to epidemics because our journalists and audience ally dear to question more. Are continuing our coded 19 coverage for weeks now we have been getting updates on this virus from our elected leaders Vice President mike pence leading the Coronavirus Task force and leading press conferences from the white house but many people around the country are starting to wonder why theyre not hearing enough from medical professionals themselves so joining me to discuss the partisanship here in washington and the urgent need for americans to hear more from doctors and nurses were being joined by larry king host of politicking larry always good to see you thank you so much so you have obviously interviewed im sorry im sorry. Thank you milledge good to be with you you have obviously interviewed countless people throughout your career i mean we cant even the rattle off any names or just everybody has talked to you would you agree that most americans want to hear from medical professionals who can tell us the facts about containing this virus rather than you know the politicians that keep taking the microphone from mainstream media. And i have my life and all my professional career which is 62 you. Always try to go to the top professionals that meet any problem. If you have a problem in sports go to sports for officials have the medicine go to doctors call the people who are going on as you do at the beginning of this hour people who are trying to make things better politicians are supposed to lead and some do a wonderful andrew cuomo has been amazing during this period of showing leadership but he doesnt know medicine and youre right the more you talk to professionals the more you learn and you know larry just today the Senate Debated this rescue bill to combat coronavirus and also it includes obviously money to help everyday People Democrats walk the vote on this nearly 2. 00 trillion dollar bill how can this be any relief to americans who are desperate for answers and all were hearing about is this bickering out of capitol hill. And thats been since time immemorial and thats thats the nature of politics is i think im right and youre wrong. I dont know but in my mind thing is the good politicians are open minded but they are in the minority. It is what it is we have a lead to the official you know the best people among us dont run for office the best people among us do not run for office think about that they are labor leaders they control industry they go to medicine they go to the war d but not not the best of us running for office so what we have were dealing here is i dont want to say mediocrity but we could we could do better and unfortunately that is no
