S. Korea reports more than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases for sixth straight day

South Korea confirmed 1,100 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday,… marking the sixth consecutive day in the four-digits.
Although the daily figure was down slightly from the previous day, the country reported record-high weekend tallies despite fewer tests taking place on Saturday and Sunday.
Of the new cases, all but 37 were locally transmitted with the majority reported in the capital area.
The Metropolitan area is currently on alert with spiraling cases of the more transmissible Delta variant.
Over the past week, Delta cases have more than doubled that of the Alpha variant in the Greater Seoul area.
This comes as cases linked to mutated strains now account for a third of new infections nationwide.
