SANDF's major employment generating mechanism on hold till 2024

The annual intake of the SA National Defence Force’s (SANDF) military skills development (MSD) programme has been put on hold until 2024.
Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Defence and Military Veterans heard at its first meeting of the year earlier this month there wasn’t going to be a 2021 intake, apparently due to the coronavirus pandemic and the implementation of the national state of disaster, now in place for over 300 days at various lockdown levels.
TSA reported earlier that compensation of employees (CoE) is the single largest expenditure item on the defence budget.
Once every two years
The committee also heard, as part of cost-saving measures, particularly in the human resource component of the SANDF, consideration will now only be given to MSD intakes once every two years.
