Infection and air movement specialists unite in call for governments to prioritise IAQ in building regs and design.
A coalition of more than 40 scientists has called for a ‘paradigm shift’ in the way that the risk of airborne infection is addressed in building design and standards. The authors, including Professor Cath Noakes, Professor of Environmental Engineering at the University of Leeds, who sits on the government’s SAGE committee, write in the subscription magazine Science that airborne infections are not addressed currently with the same way as sources of other environmental infections, such as food, sanitation or drinking water.
