Jan 13, 2021 Estevan Perera Today, Senators from both sides weighed in on the Chairman of the Elections and Boundaries Commission decision not to resign from his post. The P.U.P. Government expected that Perera would resign following the elections. They see his appointment as purely political as Perera is a known U.D.P. supporter. Perera, however, is resisting and has yet to resign. Today, Lead Opposition Senator Michael Peyrefitte told the government that it needs to respect the constitution. In response, Senator Eamon Courtenay sent a message to Perrera through Senator Peyrefitte.
Michael Peyrefitte, Lead Opposition Senator “You can’t pressure to resign simply because you don’t like the person who was appointed to the position. So here you are asking an individual, pressuring an individual to renounce himself from an office he was duly and constitutionally appointed to but yet in your motion, in your motion you say you want to strengthen the positron to make it more autonomous. But it doesn’t seem to me that right now that you appreciate the level of independence that the person has. So what are you really saying with a motion like this?”
