Shenango Township man sentenced in 2020 school van shooting

NEW CASTLE – A Shenango Township man accused of firing shots at a school van last year has been sentenced to three to six years imprisonment and two years' probation.
Bryon John Benetas, 42, was sentenced in Lawrence County Court last month. He had pleaded guilty on March 6 to aggravated assault and reckless endangerment in exchange for other charges, including attempted homicide, being dropped. 
Shenango Township police reported Benetas fired shots the morning of March 11, 2020, in the direction of a van carrying seven elementary pupils heading to school on Old Pittsburgh Road. Two bullets pierced the van and flying glass injured at least two children according to the report.
