National roads throughout County Cork are to benefit from a massive injection of funding during 2021 - but the allocation of almost €87m will still be insufficient to bring some major routes up to roadworthy condition. Councillors attending Monday's online meeting of Cork County Council on Monday were told by Roads Director Pádraig Barrett of a 42-per-cent increase in the funding allocated by Transport Infrastructure Ireland. While the major schemes category was allocated a total of €73.4m, €69m of this is ringfenced for the Baile Mhúirne/Macroom N22 bypasses. Among the other schemes to benefit from this allocation are the Mallow Relief Road, which received €800k; the M28 Cork To Ringaskiddy route; the Castlemartyr bypass (€100,000); Carrigtwohill to Midleton; and the Dunkettle Interchange.
