May 24, 2021 Today SMART will be expanding service and significantly reducing fares. The agency will be adding four morning trips and six afternoon trips to its current weekday schedule starting today. Fares will also be slashed by 40 percent and these changes will last through May of 2022. This is being done in an effort to kickstart ridership as the North Bay starts to recover from the pandemic. At its peak in February of last year, ridership numbers were at about 3,000 weekday trips. Last month, average ridership was around 430 trips per day.
