Office workers, who spend money in the central city on lunches and shopping, are vital to the well-being of the inner city. Taranaki Chamber of Commerce chief executive Arun Chaudhari said the Centre City building's multi-storey car park was an option worth following up, but it would need the building owners, AMP Capital, and the New Plymouth District Council (NPDC) to agree. More options included converting other car parks to leased parking, he said. “There is also existing leased parking which is under-utilised and that could be freed up. “Most importantly, we need all the parties to work together.” Central city landlord Kyle Still said the lack of car parking in the CBD caused added issues for landlords leasing office space.
